Day by Day... Step by Step...
Just under a month ago I met with one of the Black Library editors for a chat about a short story submission I'd done.
The feedback was positive and over the next 3 days not only did I learn exactly where I'd gone wrong, I was left completely inspired and pumped up to do better.
So how did I need to get better if I really wanted to write?
By writing of course. So I set myself a little task. Each day I'd write a little concept sheet with the intention of turning each short story concept into first a 1000 word story, then a 2000 then lastly expanding it to either a 5 or 10,000 word story and if the potential was there, a novel.
Then I added this blog to it. Then I started adding my workouts and food diaries in. The more I've added the more fun it's become.
This week was my rest week at the end of a 12 week program. From Monday I start my next 3 month iteration.
So what do I want to achieve?
Remember the story about having the map but not being rich till I open the box?
Another one was knowing what I want the outcome to be. So here it is, I am going to start creating my magic 100, a little idea from a book I read by Dax Moy years ago. You write out your magic 100 dreams/goals or aspirations. So over the next 10 days I am going to set down some goals I want to achieve, I'm also going to set some skills I'd like to acquire and some projects that I'd actually like to complete, others that I'd like to restart or revisit and enhancements that I'd like to make to myself, physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally.
Here's the first intitial 10. Not the most important but the first to be written down:
To weigh 80-83kgs by 12th March 2013.
To be able to run 6 miles comfortably.
To be able to cycle 80 miles comfortably, this might have to be extended if my application to the Surrey 100 is accepted.
To redevelop my design sketching and prototyping skills.
To learn to draw and paint fantasy/science fiction.
Sketch and ink my own comic sheets or short graphic novel. Maybe using my stories.
To learn to model using Z-brush and Cinema 4D.
To finish my book, to collate into a volume all my original newsletters before relaunching my new format in January 2013.
To paint my Space Wolf army. Start making up some of the vast armies I still have in boxes.
Clear my back room of junk / things I no longer need.
To publish my first 3 months of writing, this will include my idea concept sheets and the 1000, 2000 and possibly 5 or 10,000 word stories with their graphic work ups, sketches and paintings.
ok so that's 11... Started to get on a roll there...
Day by day... step by step I am going to walk the path towards my future self. The super version of me, he that is all I could be, should be and already am.
I'll explain this one tomorrow (smiles)
