Looking for Elite coaches....
There was an article today on the BBC website.
£20,000 a year to be one of 12 elite coaches. Am I missing something? A coach is expected to work unsociable hours, be there for their athletes round the clock, write programs, set goals and coach for less than minimum wage (I'm guessing that it will work out at a lot more than 40 hours a week).
Is this the legacy that Lord Seb keeps talking about?
Think about it for a second. Say to yourself...I am an elite... Writer... artist...speaker...scientist...mathematician...salesman...chef...dancer, anything you can imagine.
If you asked how much I earned and I said £20,000, your first thought would be "You can't be THAT good".
So they are either someone who doesn't need the money (ie someone already rich or mummy and daddy are rich), or someone who already had a couple of other gravy train jobs...maybe a police commissioner. Or one of the people that already do it for love and don't get paid a bean at the moment.
If you pay peanuts. Does it mean you will get monkeys?
You might feel I am dissing earning £20,000. Not at all. I am saying that it is a joke to pay someone who is considered either potentially an elite coach or already an elite coach such a small amount.
Elite coaches should be adequately compensated. If your athlete wins a gold medal, they receive prize money. Should there be some kind of recognition in the form of financial compensation for the coaches?
Ok let's go back to the LEGACY.
Those of us that tried to get tickets for the Olympics and were unlucky had a bad taste in our mouths, right up to the Olympics starting.
The ticket bit was a joke. The sport was fantastic.
I sat that watching out athletes outdo themselves, winning a record number of Gold medals, and I thought to myself how many of us were sitting there watching and thinking, I'd love to have a go.
Zack's gymnastic club struggles for money. Hundreds of kids called up. There was already an 18 month waiting list. Why? Because there isn't the coaches.
Coaching is expensive. It's time consuming. It doesn't pay. So before you decide to create a legacy you need people that can deliver it. While you're at it. Pay them a fair wage.
I don't begrudge anyone that earns a lot of money. The bankers I know, work their butts off. Generally they are in work anything from 4.30am and they are still there at 11pm. When some politician starts winding up the jealous masses and getting them all worked up.
Stop for a second. So a banker earns huge amounts. Do they?
First of all the papers talk utter crap 99% of the time. Have you ever read an article about something you are either knowledgeable in or an expert?
I regularly read columns about working out. I can't remember the last time I read one that wasn't laughable. When I have spoken to clients that are experts, they've said the same. So it's probably a pretty good assumption that most of what is written is sensationalized garbage, but well written.
So The Evil Empire Bank pays every employee $150,000. Let's do the numbers.
10,000 people earn an average of $150,000. Well firstly that's £100,000. No an average means we add up everyone's salaries and we divide it by that number.
So if a Top man gets $6,000,000, there's now a lot of people that aren't getting £100,000 anymore.
Then take out the tax, national insurance, higher rate of tax and the levies against bonuses.
Probably not much more than £40,000 left. So these men and women get up at the crack of dawn work 12-18 hour days, in some cases 7 days a week for £40,000.
Guess what if I worked 80 hours a week based on a 50 week year they earn £10/hour. Don't they pay shelf stackers in Tescos that same amount?
I want bankers to earn LOTS of money. I want everyone to be successful. I want people to be able to go out and buy products, services and new things because it generates more money. If 10 people are indirectly employed as a result. They pay tax, they buy products and more people get employed.
Why can't our so called geniuses work that out?
...And this all started because they are going to pay elite coaches a very low £20,000...
Unbelieveable.
Thoughts anyone?
