I've trained... where's my reward?
Since I’ve been back, my training results have started going through the roof. Stronger, fitter and losing the weight I didin’t want.
There’s a certain amount of that down to me driving myself away from where I didn’t want to be.
One of my clients hit on the problem though. She asked me a really simple question a few weeks ago. We’d been talking about the fact I couldn’t face cakes, sweets or treats that I’d normally inhale since my operation.
She asked me if I rewarded myself by eating sweets.
Ah ha!
Because I hadn’t been training I didn’t feel the need or the desire to eat or buy bad food.
Within a couple of weeks I didn’t even have the urge to.
I used to use little tricks to stop myself from eating chocolate. (I love chocolate)
I used to leave a chocolate bar in my car on a warm day and let it go all melted and gooey. Melted chocolate is disgusting so it’d stop me from eating it through the summer.
It worked.
Figure out if you are a rewarder. Can you go without? Perhaps instead of constantly rewarding yourself you try to extend the challenges further and further. Instead of a cheat weekend. Try a cheat day every 6 days, or then 7, and keep increasing it.
The other option is to give yourself an optimum weight, and abstain till you get there. Then give yourself a plus or minus 1/2kgs.
At the end of the day it’s finding out which strategies work for you.
