That Friday feeling...
The end of the first week back... I am shattered.
A lot of that was self inflicted yesterday. I'd spent most of the day designing a video and editing it down for a class I was going to teach, then at 1am this morning realised my new computer doesn't have a DVD writing program grrrrrr! Then it was bedtime till my alarm woke me just over 3.5 hours later.
I had an interesting conversation yesterday. A friend is doing a full fast for the first time. Usually around 2.5 days in things get tough for the first time. He didn't experience anything until the 3.5 day point but then things really cut in big time.
First of all he started feeling a little dizzy and sick. A mug of hot water with a little honey and lemon and he was fine. Then he started talking about giving up, maybe lasting another day or two max.
Ahhh the little voice in his head was talking him into failing and giving up. I didn't try to talk him out of it, I just went down the logistical route. Here are all the actions you need to do to succeed. He followed them and woke up this morning feeling fine.
That happens a lot.
Be aware of that voice in your head that tells you to give in or give up or you can't do something. I usually use this as a motivator. I get it a lot when I swim or write (strangely enough).
Swimming it usually comes in the first 200m then goes. I have to really regulate my breathing and concentrate on my form in the early lengths. I had it on Tuesday during my 50m sprints, after the first one the voice started telling me to give up, that it was too hard. Surprisingly I made all my sets in the allotted time.
It happens in boxing as well. Usually if I am fighting I use the first minute to settle down and getting my breathing right, otherwise I find I hold my breath and the voice starts telling me I'm going to loose.
Next time you want to give up, listen to that voice, then shout it down, if you can, kill it!
