Getting the best out of you...
I was sent this yesterday by a girl who I am helping and who is helping me:
In life, you will realize there is a role for everyone you meet. Some will test you, some will use you, and some will teach you. But the ones who are truly important are the ones who bring out the best in you. They are rare and amazing people who remind you why it's worth it. -Unknown
Last year we agreed to do the Venus and Adonis challenge and support each other while we do it. So far it's been interesting because I am going to have someone I will be answerable to.
So this set me off thinking.
I love my little Nike+ fuelband because it keep me on target, not on the days I hit target but on the days I most certainly wouldn't have done.
Yesterday I was only 206 points in at 12 noon, virtually 2800 points to go. I got going. First of all clearing my office up, twice in a week! That's never happened before.
Then I went to the gym and worked my way to my goal. I just got down and focussed.
Now let's change this around a bit.
Let's take it out of the realm of fitness and retrench it in life goals.
You set a 10 year goal.
You house
Finances
Lifestyle
Family
Friends
Learning
Spirituality
(and health and vitality, I'm sorry just THE biggy for me)
You break it down into 120 x 1 month goals.
Each of those goals are 30 days long. They may only really take a few hours or a day. Now the days where you are motivated, pumped up and ready to go, you don't need any motivation for those days.
It's the days when you drift, get nothing done. There was a comedian on TV tonight, he was telling some joke about people from the North not getting anything done because they spend all their time chatting...
I know I am guilty of that. What if I took half the time I chat away? Committed it to my goals. I've got a feeling I would get a rocket propelled start to my year.
Years ago my singing teacher showed me a video called promise keepers. It was a born again production. 3 men usually at different life stages formed a triangle and made promises to each other, cross mentoring, guiding. The youth element brought energy and enthusiasm. The other two might offer a married perspective or young family, and the older man a grandfather's perspective.
But they would make promises and keep each other to them. They had stadiums of these small groups, I can only imagine the amount of promises and stuff that actually got done.
Myfitnesspal commented that you are 300% more likely to achieve your goals when you do them in a group. Find yourself some friends or colleagues set some goals, declare them to the world and then get your group to hold you accountable.
Things could get really interesting fast. Those goals you've always wanted... you might just get them sooner than you ever thought possible.
