Ideas about the first week... and today

We live in a lottery culture, where everyone expects to buy a ticket and be rich the next day, you have to be in it to win, right? Errr wrong.

This lottery idea of winning in a day extends way beyond that. Papers and magazine don’t tell you how long it took Bill Gates or Steve Jobs or even Warren Buffett to get rich, it’s all kind of one minute they’re not, the next they're billionaires, skipping the 20-50 years of hard work in between.

I walked round Waterstones in Bluewater this weekend. Fit in 15, really? Lots of books promising to get you fit and healthy in days, based one a few minutes a day.

Is it really possible to undo 20 years of bad habits in a few minutes a day? NO!

Let’s look at it....You will get fit in 15 minutes a day!!! Oh wow that’s incredible, fantastic I will have an awesome body by next Monday if I do 15 minutes a day. Sensational rubbish. Complete lottery.

Last week I talked about the intangible habits that might ensure success, and also the ones that would practically guarantee failure.. inconsistency, flakiness, lack of direction etc.

Instead of looking at the lottery solution go for a sculpture approach.

Think what the old masters did. They found an incredible piece of rock, with an idea of what they wanted it to become. That is the overall ballpark of your goals, or maybe you have greater definition of your goals already. They then they chipped and chipped and chipped away at the rock till the sculpture underneath began to reveal itself.

For us that chipping away process isn’t 15 minutes or even 15 minutes a day for a week. It’s investing in a lifetime in your own health, wealth love and happiness.

Last week I started on my journey, it’s been a long road back to where I am now, so it’s time to step it up for stage 2.

I asked myself the question how could I make it easier for myself to recover after my accident?

Well if I was lighter there’d be less stress on my legs, so I need to lose weight. How much do I weigh and what’s achievable by when?

How could I optimise my nutrition to help me hit my fitness goals, spark my motivation for the next phase of my business and move towards a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle?

So I got started. Not massive steps. Chip chip chip chip every day:

I set a 2 hour countdown to remind myself to drink 50cl of water.

I trained everyday. If I felt pain I stopped. Waited a few hours then went back in the afternoon for another short session, or the evening.

I started researching different food solutions, ideas that I could begin implementing. My lifestyle is always on-the-move, so how do athletes that are constantly travelling do it?

I found an interesting book on my bookshelf called Feed Zone Portables, I’ve talked about it before but it is SO good. I’m not a carb free zone, I can’t function like that and I just feel so miserable, but this book gives you solutions that can be implemented and feed your body the correct balance of nutrients.

I started weighing myself every morning. Monday 96.2, Tuesday 95.1, Wednesday 94.2, Thursday 93.3 (I had a slice of Zack’s birthday cake, a slither), Friday 93.7kgs, Saturday 92.1, Sunday 91kgs (cheat day).

That’s 5 kgs in a week, without ‘trying’ hard, just being disciplined. I did one box breathing session a day and listened to audio books, read and worked.

My target is 80-83kgs. Let’s see how I get one this week. Chip chip chip.

This morning my weight was back up to 93kgs, I expect that. Yesterday was an epic cheat day. But today I'm back on it.

So it was 5 steps forward, 2 steps back in a week. I'm not unhappy with those results.

I feel stronger today and more alert, although my stomach fells swollen and uncomfortable. This morning it felt like I had a food baby.

Today's Food was simple:

Got up 5am 50cl of water

Trained at 8.15am

Simple body for life approach just for the first two weeks to help establish a habit, then I'm going to move things around.

Breakfast Porridge+Protein+raisins

Lunch Protein bar +coffee

Afternoon homemade protein balls

Dinner Homemade carrot, tomato and lentil soup

Today I started my self journal loving so far... more on that tomorrow.
